◆ Introduction

     The International Medical School of Integrated Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine, Tianjin Medical University was approved by Tianjin Education Commission were established in December, 1997. Dr. Hao Xishan, president of Tianjin Medical University was named dean of International Medical School as pluralism, Professor Guo Fenglin, Director of department of international exchange, was named senior vice dean of International Medical School.

     When the International Medical School was established in 1997, our university had 12 scholarship students and some short-term students only. In the same year, we admitted first batch of self-financed Pakistan and Turkish students which is one of the earliest batches of students studying five-year medical program in English medium among the medical universities in China.

     In the early stage of International Medical School, we kept class size as 30 students per year. With the vigorous support of university leaders, International Medical School and all of departments solved varies of difficulties, selected and managed vary curriculums bases on every country requirement that students come from，compiled medical textbook by ourselves, senior teachers did in helping and guiding the young and middle-aged teachers and passing on their experience to them. Teacher team was practiced in teaching, they improved teaching method, piled up teaching experience, and teacher team was built up rapidly.

     The year 2006 is the first year of China's National Eleventh Five-Year Plan; it is also the key year for school development. International medical education in our university moved from rapid develop stage into maturity. It is the important phase for International Medical School self development, elevating educational quality, build educational brand. In the past years, international medical education sound development in our university verified that "survival basis of quality" is the correct educational philosophy.
