项目简介
MEDIV 2012暑期医学课程项目——欧洲是我公司历时一年为各位具有国际视野,立志踏上国际化成长道路的医学生倾情奉上的暑期海外访学计划之一。本项目在帮助学生申请到荷兰乌特勒支暑期学校进行为期一至两周的医学相关课程学习的基础上,安排学生参观访问世界知名学校——瑞典乌普萨拉大学和卡罗林斯卡医学院,此外根据学生个人需求安排适当的欧洲观光活动。
项目说明
(1)拥有26年办学经验的荷兰乌特勒支暑期学校始于1987年,最初只有一门课程:荷兰文化和社会。而经过二十多年的发展 ,该校提供的课程现已超过130门,几乎涵盖乌特勒支大学所有的学科。乌特勒支暑期学校的课程由乌特勒支大学及乌特
勒支应用科学大学提供。这些高等教育机构提供了高质量、充分被认可的学士、硕士和博士水平的夏季课程。所有课程
都由教学人员以英语教授。无论您对医学、商业、社会科学还是语言学感兴趣,我们均有提供合适的课程!大部分的课
程可产生学分。在成功完成暑期课程后,学生将获得正式的证书。
(2)乌普萨拉大学建立于1477年,素有"瑞典的剑桥大学"、"美苏核竞见证人"等称号,是瑞典最古老的大学,也是北欧国家
的第一所大学。有许多杰出的医学与自然科学学者在此工作。同时也是全世界诺贝尔奖获得者最多的大学之一。该大学
的教育水平享誉整个瑞典。乌普萨拉大学图书馆是瑞典举足轻重的学术研究图书馆。它的藏书量之多,内容之丰富,使
之成为了一个重要的国家文化机构。
(3)卡罗琳斯卡医学院是全瑞典惟一的一所独立医科大学,由瑞典国王卡罗十三世创立于建立于1810年,位于首都斯德哥尔
摩,是诺贝尔生理学或医学奖的评选机构,它是欧洲乃至世界最优秀的医科大学,在世界大学学术排名中位列瑞典高校
第一名,欧洲临床医学与药学第一名,世界生命科学与生物医学第八名。
(4)在充实的学习之余还可根据自身需求进行西欧五国游,感受郁金香王国、风车之乡的独特诱惑,徜徉在塞纳河畔,抑或
人间仙境天鹅堡,尽情领略西方文化的别样风情。

Advanced bachelor level
Regenerative Medicine (RM) is an exciting new field that holds much promise for generating innovative therapies for a wide variety of diseases and disorders. RM focuses on harnessing the body's own repair mechanisms to replace or heal damaged tissues and organs. In this way, it is hoped that the shortage and rejection of transplanted donor organs may be solved in the future. You'll engage with other international students on the importance of RM and how it can contribute to healthcare and you'll gain insight into the novel treatments of tomorrow.
In this Summer School course you'll gain a unique overview of RM. This field has the ability to touch every ailment, ranging from cancer to heart disease to nervous disorders. This multidisciplinary field incorporates stem cell biology, tissue engineering, biomaterials engineering, and transplantation science. In addition, it also includes various enabling technologies and clinical application areas, with the ultimate goal of improving patient lives.
In this interactive course at an advanced bachelor level, you'll learn the basics of regenerative medicine, stem cell biology and technologies as well as how this science is translated and implemented into patient care. The course combines lectures, tutorials with hands-on experiments, demonstrations and tours.
TARGET GROUP
Advanced bachelors/beginning masters in the (bio)medical and life sciences. Proficiency in English is required. Applicants will go through a selection procedure.

In this interactive course at an advanced bachelor level, you'll learn the basics of regenerative medicine, stem cell biology and technologies as well as how this science is translated and implemented into patient care. The course combines lectures, tutorials with hands-on experiments, demonstrations and tours.

Advanced bachelor level
This course focuses on the molecular mechanisms that turn a normal cell into a cancer cell. We will explore the regulation of cell cycle progression, the control of transcription regulation and the signalling networks that enable cells to execute vital processes such as growth, division and migration, and how malfunctioning of these processes may lead to tumour formation and metastasis.
The students will be introduced to state-of-the-art methods in molecular cancer research and strategies for developing drugs to halt the formation of tumours.
The course combines lectures, discussions, tutorials with hands-on experiments and laboratory tours.
The program includes the following topics:
* Oncogenes, tumor suppressors & tumor evolution
* Cell cycle control and cancer
* Signal transduction pathways and cancer
* Cell adhesion and migration in cancer
* Sequencing the cancer genome
* Gene expression and cancer
* Epigenetics and cancer
* Intestinal stem cells and colon cancer
* Zebrafish models of cancer
* Novel diagnostics & therapeutics for personalised cancer care

TARGET GROUP
Advanced bachelors/beginning masters in the (bio)medical and life sciences with a background in molecular biology, cell biology and genetics/genomics as well as proficiency in English.
Applicants go through a selection procedure; max number of participants is 20.
COURSE AIM
After following the course, students should be able to explain how cancer develops, which techniques and models are used to study the cancer process, and how knowledge of the cancer process can be used to improve diagnosis and treatment.

A typical day consists of 5 -7 hrs contact with the teachers, with lectures and discussions in the morning/early afternoon, followed by labtours and practical exercises.
